Microsoft HoloLens is a Augmented Reality device. It is a part of Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality AR Platform which is integrated with Windows 10 OS.If we look on the physical stucture of HoloLens,it has a see-through display worn over your eyes.

The eye piece component of the device is transparent and it neither requires PC or smartphone to function. HoloLens has the ability to project high definition(HD) virtual content or holograms over the real world objects.

HoloLens’s Interface

As a HoloLens wearer you can still see the real world in front of you. You can still do all the general things like walking around the room,talking to people without getting bumped into some objects or wall.

As you can see in the above video the goggles track your movements of your hands,eyes etc. This device mainly focuses on your gaze and transforms what you see by blasting light on your eyes.This device has wide range of sensors to detect your movements in a room and then it uses this information along with layers of colored glasses to create images with which you can interact.

HoloLens also has a camera which looks at the objects like chair table etc present inside the room. Then is uses this information to project 3D images on top of and even inside them.Microsoft has said that HoloLens can transform businesses and open up new possibilities of how we interact.

General Information about HoloLense

HoloLense features an HD 3D optical head mounted display(HMD) , spacial sound projection and advance sensors which allows its users to interact with AR application through head movements, voices and gestures.

A Microsoft official has said that “The key to a great holographic experience is holograms that have a high holographic density and are anchored to the world around you”. According to Microsoft, HoloLens has various sensors and a high end CPU and a GPU which gives this headset more processing power than an average laptop.

HoloLense can be used from Social apps to games, navigation and this device has an incredible potential to dive more deeper areas.Microsoft has collaborated with NASA in the making of HoloLens and there is a potential to control Mars rover curiosity(a vehicle made for exploring planet mars) via Hololens,allowing NASA staff to work as if they were on planet themselves.

Unveiling & Release

Microsoft HoloLens was unveiled during a Windows 10 event on 21st January 2015. The final product was released on 31st March 2016,priced at $3000 or 2000 pound.It allowed the developers to start making apps and games for the headset. Months later it became available to anyone having a Microsoft account.
